Possibilities on a skippered yacht charter

Come as a family or existing group of friends, or join other people wanting a similar style of holiday. Previous experience is NOT required. Ted & Jane can sail Longbow on their own if needed, so you will not be expected to do things you do not feel comfortable with. If you are a beginner you will be taken through the essentials and taught at a rate appropriate to your requirements. More experienced sailors will enjoy ample time helming and trimming sails.

Our most common types of charter are described below. More information is available for each by clicking on the link.

See the calendar for current availability and last-minute discounts.

  • Holidays: A sailing holiday offers the chance to take things at your own pace whilst trying new activities and visiting new places. There is something to suit everyone: the skipper has sailed with people of all ages and levels of expertise and aims to tailor the cruise to suit the group. Tell me more...

  • Birthday and other celebrations: Celebrate a special occasion with your family and friends with a day out on Longbow. By remaining in protected waters, an 8 or 12 hour trip will be a pleasant experience for even the most reluctant seafarer. Read about holidays or corporate entertainment for more information.

  • Sail training and mile building: Longbow is a powerful, responsive and seaworthy yacht, perfect for adventurous sail training and mile building, and has a Category 2 classification (up to 60 miles from a safe haven). The experienced skipper offers instruction in sailing, seamanship and navigation to the level required. Tell me more...

  • Corporate entertainment: Pamper your guests or reward your team with a memorable sail and an impressive meal, if required. Longbow's size and space make her ideal for corporate entertainment in comfort for up to 10 guests. She is usually based less than an hour from Glasgow. Tell me more...

  • Team building: Longbow is also well-suited for team building events. These can be based around learning to sail or use Longbow purely as an exciting venue. Stable 240V AC power can be supplied for computers and other I.T. equipment. The main saloon provides ample space for presentations. Tell me more...

Prices and booking

Longbow Cruising offers a variety of charter periods:

  • Day outings, usually 8 or 12 hours
  • Weekend charters, 30 or 48 hours
  • Standard charters of 4 to 6 days
  • Longer charters of 10 to 13 days.
  • availability for events such as the Classic Malts Cruise.

Contact Longbow Cruising for current availability and quotations for your exact requirements. Current availability can also be viewed on the calendar page of the website. Prices are all inclusive; all meals and refreshments, waterproof clothing, bedding and towels are included. Even a small quantity of wine is offered with the evening meal when the day's sailing is done. There are no additional on-board expenses such as a fuel levy or marina charges. This makes budgeting for the holiday easy: once you have arrived at the boat it is possible not to spend any additional money during the charter.

Prices are dependent upon the time of year and the number of guests in your group. As a guide an individual berth for a 6-day cruise ranges from £532 to £632, and short day outings from £112.

There are three ways in which berths on Longbow can be booked.

  • Come as a family or existing group of friends and book the boat for your exclusive use. Booking for a group of 6 or 7 ensures exclusive use of the boat. For an exclusive booking for 5 or less a premium has to be paid.
  • A booking from 2 to 5 people can be accepted allowing the other berths to be filled. Efforts are made to match people with similar aspirations.
  • There are often berths available for you to join an existing cruise. This is particularly useful if there is some flexibility in dates so that you can join the most appropriate group.
